Science with and for Society – Contributions of Cybernetics and Systems

WOSC 2017, the 17th Congress of World Organisation of Systems and Cybernetics, will offer a space for conversations about social dynamics from a cyber-systemic perspective.

Its realisation is supported by a network of scientists from different parts of the world, which foretells an event more integrated than the usual running of parallel tracks.

The construction of the agenda has been highly participative; efforts have been made to support diversity within the shared thematic of science with and for society. In particular, we want to focus on challenges of the 21st century.

We welcome submissions of abstracts, focused on any of the Congress´s 16 tracks, which have been organised in three themes.

S1. Evolution of hegemonies: The power in time.

The aims of this Symposium are orientated towards the debate about the most important elements, which have conditioned the evolution of the hegemonic societies in each moment in history as well as the power relationships created to keep their hegemony. In this context is important to know the systemic mechanisms that are activated as a response to the transition crisis, and the responses given in each moment of time regarding the exercise of power.

The descriptors related to this particular Symposium are listed below, which can give a general idea to the researchers who wish to present a paper. They are not the only ones, and researchers may present other approaches related to the subject at hand.

We would like to invite you to participate in the debates of the web-forum corresponding to the Panel and encourage you to submit a proposal for a presentation during the Conference.

The proposals for 20-minute presentations should be between 500 and 1000 words, excluding the key words and references. The full papers should be maximum 5000 words. The publication norms will be published on the Conference’s webpage.

9th Congress of the EUS-UES Abstracts CD and Proceedings CD, both with ISBN, will be produced with all accepted abstracts and papers submitted.

Una gran representación de la comunidad universitaria despide a Lorenzo Ferrer

Una amplia representación de la comunidad universitaria ha despedido este lunes a Lorenzo Ferrer, profesor emérito de la Universitat de València, que murió en la madrugada del sábado en el Col·legi Major Lluís Vives, donde residía.

Entre otras personas, han estado presentes en el Cementerio General de València el rector Esteban Morcillo; los exrectores Ramon Lapiedra y Pedro Ruiz; miembros del Consell de Direcció de la Universitat; diferentes decanos, y una nutrida representación de la Facultat de Matemàtiques, encabezada por el decano, Rafael Crespo. Han pronunciado parlamentos los profesores Rafael Pla, Rafael Beneyto y Josep Guia.

Lorenzo Ferrer era un catedrático de referencia en la Universitat, donde fue decano de Ciencias y de Matemáticas, y una persona muy querida por toda la comunidad universitaria. Ferrer recibió la Medalla de la Universitat en un solemne acto celebrado en 2005.

Lorenzo Ferrer nació en Barcelona, el 21 de noviembre de 1920. Fue nombrado Maestro de la Generalitat de Catalunya durante la Guerra Civil (octubre 1937-abril 1938). Posteriormente estudió en la Universitat de Barcelona. Doctor en Matemática, fue profesor adjunto en la Universidad de Barcelona (1947-1959). En el año 1959 obtuvo la cátedra de Mecánica Teórica en la Universitat de València, que ejerció hasta 1987, año en que pasó a ser profesor emérito.

En las convocatorias de 1953 y 1956 obtuvo el premio de Investigación Torres Quevedo. También consiguió el premio Valencia Innovación en la categoría de Investigación + Desarrollo (1989). Fundador de la Escuela de la Investigación Operativa de la Universitat de València, en 1965, y director de la misma (1965-1991), fue el introductor de la lnvestigación operativa y de la Teoría de Sistemas en Valencia (entre 1962 y 1969).

Era presidente de la Sociedad Española de Sistemas Generales (desde 1994), y vicepresidente de la Unión Europea de Sistemas.

Impartió centenares de cursos en las facultades de Ciencias. Química, Físicas, Matemáticas. Económicas, Escuelas de Ingenieros Superiores Agrónomos, de Caminos y de Arquitectos de València, y también en las facultades de Químicas, Matemáticas y en la Escuela de Ingenieros Industriales de Barcelona.

Redes (30/05/10): Desmontando mitos sobre el mundo

Hola de nuevo, hace tiempo que no metía otro mensaje en la botella y alguien me ha hecho saber que podría hacer un blog de mis sentimientos actuales, de ahí que comience sin mucha inquietud mis comentarios sobre mis últimas vivencias. Intentaremos ser prácticos y seguir el curso de la historia, quiero decir, mi historia 🙂

Ya he llegado a Changchun, me ha recogido un joven y simpatico
profesor que me ha dado una vuelta por el campus donde nos alojamos en el hotel, que es el que más pisamos durante los
tres días que estuvimos por aquí el pasado año, y me ha llevado
a comer a uno de los restaurantes concertados con la universidad dentro del campus central o downtown y hemos conversado amigablemente.
Me han asignado una habitacion en el edificio donde dábamos las clases de chino cuando vinimos el pasado año. Es un miniapartamento con una fenomenal conexión de Internet
por cable, sin contraseñas. Tengo también teléfono.
Parece que todas mis actividades se van a desarrollar en el otro
campus, el moderno de las afueras de la ciudad. Hay
servicios de autobus gratuitos con diferentes rutas intercampus segun parece. Mañana me entrevistaré con la decana
y visitaré el campus nuevo y disfrutaré del día si el tiempo mejora, claro. ¿Por qué digo ésto? Al llegar habia sol aunque se apreciaban nubes lejanas. Después de dormir la siesta para recuperarme del viaje al mirar por la ventana he descubierto que estaba diluviando de manera torrencial. Ahora sigue lloviendo aunque ya no es lo mismo que la tormenta de hace un par de horas, llueve continuadamente y parece que seguirá. Sin tregua.

Inicialmente Troya era fruto de la imaginacion, luego se llega al descubrimiento de su verdadera existencia fisica. La verdad oficial es que se trataba de una guerra resultado del rapto de un ser humano y se enfrentaban dos civilizaciones por este motivo, los buenos eran los griegos que querian recuperar a su doncella y los malos los troyanos que eran demasiado ricos y altivos… La verdad mas inteligente a deducir es que Troya era una ciudad rica llena de tesoros que era un objetivo natural de cualquier civilizacion pirata como podian ser los griegos, los fenicios o los vikingos en el mundo antiguo. Nada ha cambiado desde entonces y seguimos con esos patrones de comportamiento.

La verdad es que esto de los blogs supone una gran cantidad de faena que difícilmente puede verse recompensada salvo que a uno le encante escribir mensajes y meterlos en botellas que cierra y deja flotando sobre el agua del mar o de un río. Veamos si encontramos alguna mejor utilidad para este tipo de dispositivos de forma que ayuden a cambiar o a mejorar algunas cosas.
